Jerry Bontrager, a seasoned natural Horsemanship trainer located in Southeast Oklahoma, operates a specialized training and colt starting program aimed at providing horses of all disciplines with a strong foundation for success.

Jerry’s horsemanship techniques, inspired by Buck Brannaman, have proven successful through working with problem horses to wild mustangs. Jerry specializes in groundwork, desensitization exercises, and getting your horse to the thinking side of the brain, which all translates into preparing a horse for their first ride. Developing a nice, soft, supple horse creates a willing partner through understanding and release of pressure. Jerry won the Montrose, Colorado, TIP Challenge with his first Mustang in 2021, has competed and won the 2024 Colt Starting USA Competition in Albany, Oregon, and is working on teaching more clinics across the country to share his knowledge and understanding with other people.
